The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been deep and wide, affecting many countries and industries globally.
This crisis continues to have a significant impact on the aviation industry amid the unprecedented global travel restrictions and border closures. As a result, airlines around the world have been pre-occupied with survival and recovery.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
However, even during this period of uncertainty, the SIA Group's commitment to sustainability remains strong. We continue to be invested in conducting our businesses responsibly and integrating sustainability into our operations.
Our commitment to sustainable development sees us investing in modern and fuel-efficient aircraft to help reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. To reduce energy usage, we adopt the use of renewable energy in our operations and the use of solar panels on our buildings.
In the area of waste management, we leverage customer surveys, data analytics and staff feedback to better understand our customers' food preferences to explore ways to minimise food wastage. We digitalised many parts of our in-flight operations and also increased the number of digital publications available for download from the e-Library feature on our SingaporeAir mobile app to reduce the amount of paper used and uplifted on our flights.
We also contribute to a greener planet in many other ways, as well as engage our stakeholders and participate in meaningful community efforts.
Feedback on our Initiatives
To better focus our efforts, we set up a dedicated Sustainability Office in December 2019, looking into all aspects of our operations and coordinating long-term sustainability initiatives across our business units.
